dear author: once upon a fic

Dear Author,

For whoever has me: I'm so grateful that you're putting the time and effort into making me a piece of art like this! Writing is hard and takes forever and I appreciate every second you put into it. This stuff is hard work! And please forgive the formatting of this post. Someday, I will figure out dreamwidth but that day is not today.

I didn't realize I loved fairy tales until I got into schools and realized most people didn't grow up on a wide assortment. Turns out that I'd been reading from my mother's old "Children's Literature" textbook. It explains many things about me, really. It's my first time doing this exchange and I'm pretty excited! Take my preferences with a grain of salt because hey, I want you to be excited about this too!

With that in mind, here are my lists.

Most of these DNW are because I want to be safe rather than sorry — there's no worse feeling than wanting to love something and not being able to because they stumbled across a squick or two. (And this is based off my general "just in case" list, so if you're like in a fairy tale exchange??? know that I have anxiety and leave it at that).

• Angst that stays miserable — happy or hopeful endings are more my jam than never-ending misery.
• Gratuitous death / torture / that kind of thing.
• Tentacles and tentacle sex. 
• Strap ons.
• High school AUs / making significantly characters younger.
• "It was all a dream!"
• Being miserable about being queer. Small amounts of bigotry from others is okay, but I don't want that to be the focus.
• Horror / gore / drug use / darkfic
• A/B/O
• Daddy / Mommy kink
• Modern / Normal world au or all-human aus / completely stripping out the fairy tale elements. Modern AUs are fine as long as I can tell it's from a fairy tale and not just a high school fic with strange names!
• Watersports / scat / vomit / bloodplay.
• Songfic (meaning: the entire fic is interspersed with lyrics).
• Second Person.
• Texting aus.
• PWP. 
• Non-con.
• Abusive relationships shown as positive.
• Bluebeard himself being genderbent. All other genderbends are fine though!
• Leaning into the incest of the Greek gods. We all know they're Like That. Don't make it the focus of the story please!

I like a lighter kind of fic, if you can't tell! That doesn't mean you can't go dark, but there should be a few little beacons of light at least! Sex is fine, but I prefer story w/ a little sex instead of sex-with-a-little-story. Competency kink, praise kink, and light bondage are all good!
 
 

And now for suggestions! They very much are suggestions. A way to get things rolling if they aren't already! And one thing that applies to all of them: I am 100%, 1000% down with making it more queer. All the queer! I'm a lesbian with a heart full of rainbows.
 

Twelve Dancing Princesses

• Exploring things from the princesses sides! The youngest or eldest or any of the ten middle sisters!
• More worldbuilding about the cursed princes / the land that was under their closet.
• Related: how did the princesses find it? 

The Little Mermaid

• What is the sea-foam / wind spirit world like?
• Does having a soul have other effects? What does it feel like?
• Worldbuilding the magic!

Bluebeard

• MAGIC WORLDBUILDING! Are you seeing a theme? I adore the odd, sideways, inexplicable magic of fairy tales.
• What else is in that house? What else does the wife get up to?
• Is there another way the wife could have outsmarted him?

Hymn to Demeter

• What was Persephone's side of the story???
• You don't have to go the route of Hades/Persephone being happy but I do have a weakness for couples supporting each other and being each others rock. No underworld irony intended.
• Persephone as more of an active agent in her own fate!
• Getting into Persephone's powers / timai (sphere of influence)

Although obviously I have things I'd like to see, as long as you steer clear of my DNW we're absolutely golden! And thank you so much again for writing for me!
